5G Stuff: UE capabilities co-ordination in LTE and NR context

From 3GPP TR 38804, a UE supporting LTE and NR, it can reports its capabilities to both LTE and NR.

Some guidelines are to be taken care as below

1. LTE capabilities related to NR IRAT measurements and if the UE supports DC between LTE and NR

2. Independent reporting of NR capabilities

3. Dependency between LTE and NR in the context on the usage of the capabilities, impact on the other RAT etc

Type - 1: Use of capabilities is isolated to the RAT. Here no co-ordination between LTE and NR is required. Here MN may simply forward the capabilities of other RAT to SN

Type - 2: Use of capabilities impacts the other RAT but not understood by the NW side of the other RAT

Type - 3: Use of capabilities impacts the other RAT and is understood by the NW side of the other RAT

MN is required to co-ordinate with SN for 1) Band combinations across RATs 2) L2 buffer

The SN can initiate the re-negotiation of the UE cap and MN to act accordingly when it receives this request from SN.

5G Stuff: LAA and eLAA

LAA is in 3GPP SI and WI since 2013. Though it is not absolutely a 5G topic, it is expected to see improvements in LAA when 5G is rolled ...
